  1. Hi Brittany! I have to apologize I just saw your comment on my for photographers blog. The 50mm 1.4 or 1.2 is one of those lenses that I feel is a must have for anyone starting out. Yes it's nice to be able to zoom in and out but I love the crisp photos I get from a fixed lens like that. The only lenses that I would recommend with a zoom are all over $1000 so for your money the 50mm 1.4 is perfect! It is a little more expensive than the 1.8 but you won't regret it. Really it's the perfect lens to start with I think. You will get picky after having it because of how good the glass is. I also found that Manual mode is a million times easier to master on a lens with a fixed aperture. I couldn't stand my aperture changing every time I would zoom in and out with my first lens. Honestly I could shoot a whole session with just my 50 if I wanted to. I love it. :) One of my faves!

  2. I almost forgot. One of the things I love about the 50mm is it is great in low light situations. You can open your aperture all the way up and not have to crank up your ISO love it. It give a beautiful shallow depth of field.
